Pwllheli is a busy market town located on the south coastline of the Llyn Peninsula. It is situated between two of Wales’s stunning natural attractions, Eryri/Snowdonia National Park and The Llyn Peninsula, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. Like many North Wales areas, Pwllheli has a strong maritime heritage and is now home to the national sailing academy. There are lots of things to keep you busy when you book one of our holiday cottages in Pwllheli.
Of course! Pwllheli sits in a fantastic location on the Llyn Peninsula, making it a great base for exploring the best of Gwynedd. Pwllheli itself is a bustling market town with plenty of shops, cafes and attractions. Here are some of our favourite things to do in and around Pwllheli:
– Visit Portmeirion, a stunning Italianate village built into a wooded peninsula. (30 minutes / 17 miles away)
– Walk a stunning section of the Wales Coast Path from Pwllheli to Llanbedrog, culminating in sea views from the top of Mynydd Tir-Y-Cwmwd (14.5km / 3.5hrs out-and-back)
– Rally the troops for an activity day at Glasfryn Parc, where you can try your hand at everything from wakeboarding to clay pigeon shooting. (10 minutes / 5 miles)
– Visit the third-best beach bar in the world, the Ty Coch Inn at Porthdinllaen. (16 minutes / 7.5 miles)
– Enjoy a walk around the harbour and along the beach before rewarding yourself with fish & chips from Allports on Y Maes.
There are two beaches in Pwllheli itself. Traeth Pwlhelli is the town’s main beach, and it’s a scenic stretch of sand backed by a Promenade. Glan y Don is Pwllheli’s other beach and is a 3-mile mix of soft sand and pebbles. During the summer months, dogs must be kept to the far left ends on both beaches.
Elsewhere, local beaches we strongly recommend include Llanbedrog, Abersoch, Porth Oer and Borth-y-Gest.
