Top Family-Friendly Holiday Cottages for the Summer Holidays
With so much great weather so far this year already, we’re thinking about one thing and one thing only – the summer break. Summer holidays to North Wales during July and August are nothing short of magic. There are endless beaches on offer, scenic walks in the mountains and an unlimited choice of things to see and do. From perfecting your sandcastle-building technique on the beach to searching for fairies and bears in the wild woods, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. So much so that North Wales is consistently voted and named as one of the best places for family holidays in the UK – and while we might be biased, we’d have to agree.
To help you plan your perfect summer holiday getaway to North Wales, we’ve rounded up some of our most popular holiday cottages and what they’re known for.
When do the summer holidays start in North Wales?
While exact dates differ between local councils, most schools will be shut for the summer holidays in North Wales from the 21st July to the 29th August.
Best choice for beach access
If you’re bringing water babies in tow, having direct (or very close) beach access will ensure minimal stress. There’s nothing quite like falling asleep to the sound of the waves, or the convenience of a short walk back to the house when you remember you forgot to bring the sun cream.
It doesn’t get much more beachfront than Rockside, a luxury Anglesey holiday cottage perched on the rocky outcrop that surrounds the popular beach of Trearddur Bay. Little ones can rockpool to their hearts’ content while the grown-ups drink in sea views from handcrafted Adirondack chairs, and evenings are reserved for stargazing from the hot tub.
Elsewhere in North Wales, the sleek surf village of Abersoch beckons with its world-renowned ice cream parlour and beautiful beaches – 113 Cae Du is just a hop, skip and jump away from Lon Golff, the road which snakes down to the village’s main beach, Traeth Abersoch.
Best choice for proximity to attractions
Less screen time, more time spent laughing, making memories, and genuinely connecting as a family — rather than connecting to the wi-fi. If that sounds good, choosing somewhere that has lots to do from the doorstep will make your break easy, action-packed and fun for everyone.
The Llyn Peninsula is loaded with family-friendly attractions, from outdoor excitement such as wakeboarding and go-karting at Glasfryn Parc to the more sedate and visually stunning Italianate village of Portmeirion. Both Pengolwg and Bron y Gadair are the perfect family-friendly holiday accommodation options nearby, with equally convenient proximity to beaches, restaurants and town centres.

Best choice for peace and quiet
In search of some total switch-off time? Keen to venture far from the madding crowd during the summer holidays? Our collection of remote cottages in North Wales is all about enjoying the outdoors without compromising on conveniences like private bathrooms, fully-equipped kitchens, and not waking up in a half-collapsed tent.
Enjoy teddy-bear picnics in the privacy of your own woodland at Murmur y Coed, a contemporary stone cottage within easy access of Menai Bridge, Anglesey. Otter Cottage offers equal serenity, with a storybook setting beside the river Erch, where little ones can play Pooh Sticks atop a quaint stone bridge.
Best choice for bringing the dog
Getting away with the full gang, dog included, can sometimes be a logistical nightmare, or an overwhelming whirlwind of excitable pups – humans included. Holidaying at one of our pet-friendly cottages in North Wales takes all of the tension out of the situation with enclosed gardens and long walks from the doorstep. We also offer a concierge service that includes pet sitting, walking, doggy day care and childminding – so that you can enjoy some grown-up time, too.
Nyth Y Wennol is the perfect family escape on Anglesey, nestled on the outskirts of a village near Menai Bridge. A former schoolhouse, it boasts stylish decor throughout, and seriously stunning views across Snowdonia – aside from the interior design and scenery, dogs can also enjoy a spacious back garden. Bella Vista is another superb dog-friendly holiday cottage in North Wales, within a short walking distance of Criccieth centre. You’ll drink in sea views from all angles, and enjoy unrivalled proximity to one of North Wales’ most beloved (and dog-friendly) restaurants, Dylans.
Best choice for large groups
Whether it’s a family reunion or you’re bringing the cute chaos of cousins together for a summer holiday break, staying together in a larger property can maximise the family fun. It’s also a great excuse to bring the free babysitters along and treat them to a getaway in the process.
For a luxurious and contemporary option near everything on offer in the popular resort town of Rhosneigr, Llynfor sleeps 10 across five bedrooms. Set within its own 1.5 acre plot, there’s plenty of space for everyone to unwind.
Alternatively, if you want separate accommodation and amenities with a communal area you can enjoy together, Paul’s Place, Gwen’s House and Robyn’s Retreat (sleeping 4, 4 and 3) are neighbouring holiday cottages that share a games room and outdoor area.
For large group accommodation on the Llyn Peninsula, Glasfryn Fawr is a stunning stone farmhouse that sleeps up to 10.
