Romantic North Wales: Valentine’s Day & St Dwynwen’s Day Activities

St Dwynwen’s Day and Valentine’s Day may be a few weeks apart, but at heart they celebrate the same thing: making time for each other.

St Dwynwen’s Day falls on Sunday 25th January this year, with Valentine’s Day following on Saturday 14th February. Both land perfectly for a romantic weekend escape in North Wales, whether you choose one…or decide to make the most of both.

Here are five very good reasons to celebrate with us, plus one final half-reason worth staying for:

1. Romantic cottages made for two

Some places are simply better shared. Our collection includes cosy hideaways with roaring log fires, as well as indulgent retreats complete with deep baths and beautiful interiors. Perfect for slow mornings, long evenings, and nowhere else to be. Below is a small shortlist of cottages we think are particularly lovely for a romantic escape.

2. Peace, quiet, and space to slow down

Late January and early February are some of the best times to visit North Wales. The landscape feels calmer, the pace slower, and the crowds thinner. It’s the perfect backdrop for switching off and spending time together without distraction.

3. Both dates fall on weekends

With both St Dwynwen’s Day and Valentine’s Day landing on weekends this year, there’s no need to rush. A couple of nights away gives you time to arrive, settle, and truly unwind together.

4. Walk to the most romantic island of them all

If you’re staying on Anglesey or in Gwynedd, a walk to Llanddwyn Island is not to be missed. Home of St Dwynwen, the Welsh patron saint of lovers, the island is beautiful year-round. On 25 January, it feels especially meaningful. Wind-swept, peaceful, and quietly magical.

5. A candlelit dinner under the stars

As part of our concierge service, we can arrange a dining experience that’s anything but ordinary. Working with the wonderful duo at Happy Fig Catering, we can help create a candlelit picnic in some of the most beautiful, secluded spots North Wales has to offer. Think wild beaches, quiet hillsides, flickering candles and exceptional food. Wrap up warm and leave the rest to Harri & Meg.

5.5 The surprise factor

Most relationships are made up of two people. Why not let one of you take on the role of planner? Choose a cottage, keep it quiet, and surprise your other half with a romantic escape. It’s thoughtful, memorable, and almost guaranteed to earn you serious goodwill.
