Romantic Retreats: Six North Wales Cottages for Couples

With breathtaking scenery and warm hospitality, North Wales is the epitome of romance. Steeped in the myth and legend of folklore, not only is it the alleged resting place of the Patron Saint of Lovers, but this captivating corner of Cymru effortlessly blends adventure and tranquillity, a combination reminiscent of any swoon-worthy blockbuster or romance novel.  To help you book a break that your other half will adore, we’re taking a look at some of our most romantic cottages in North Wales. You can also take a look at our guide to the best things to do for couples in North Wales

Six of Our Most Romantic Cottages

Dreaming of a trip to a romantic cottage in Wales? Browse six of our most charming boltholes for two below.

Plas Bach, Rhoscolyn, Anglesey

Sleeps 2 | Pet-Friendly

Plas Bach is the romantic cottage archetype, with thick stone walls, stunning sash windows and a slate roof. A log burner sits perched within an ancient inglenook fireplace, while a mezzanine loft space is home to the bedroom and bathroom. Designed as a cosy retreat for two, Plas Bach is conveniently wedged between the Anglesey Coast Path and The White Eagle Pub, rumoured to be a favourite haunt of Prince William during his time on the island.

Best for: A quiet, rural break just steps from the beach and a local pub.

Sea Breezes, Moelfre, Anglesey

Sleeps 2 | Pet-Friendly

Bedecked with tasteful nautical decor and offering sparkling sea views from most of its windows, Sea Breezes is a charming apartment set within a larger village house. Situated on the hillside as you wind your way down to the sea at Moelfre, the apartment has a shared outdoor terrace that offers comfortable seating and views that will sweep you off your feet.

Best for: Spellbinding sunrise views in a quaint fishing village.

Y Granor, Pwllheli, Llyn Peninsula

Sleeps 4 | No Pets

Part of a traditional Welsh longhouse, Y Granor (The Granary) is bursting with character. Original features such as thick timber beams, exposed stone walls and ornate wooden windows give it a wonderfully romantic feel. Soak away all stress in the bathtub, return from a winters walk to the welcome heat of the log burner or while away a summer evening with a glass of wine in the garden. Just a short distance away, you can also experience the stunning Ty Coch, a pub tucked into the crook of a stunning sandy beach with breathtaking mountain and ocean views.

Best for: Cosiness and character in a romantic Welsh longhouse.

Ty Bach, Llanberis, Snowdonia

Sleeps 2 | Pet-Friendly

Our list of romantic cottages in Wales wouldn’t be complete without an Eryri option. Ty Bach, which means ‘little house’ is a traditional stone cottage in Llanberis, which was once a slate mining town in the heart of Snowdonia National Park. Today, it’s the starting point for many mountain hikes, along with a popular departure point for the Snowdon Mountain Railway

Best for: Moody mountain walks followed by cosy evenings beside the log burner.

The Hayloft, Rhosneigr, Anglesey

Sleeps 2 | Pet-Friendly

A romantic Anglesey stay for two with a private hot tub, The Hayloft forms part of the Plas Llechylched estate. Just a few miles from the popular surf town of Rhosneigr, this blissful bolthole has been recently redecorated to boast a log burner with tile accent wall, loft bedroom with glass-balustrade walkway and a show-stopping rolltop bath. If you can bear to drag yourself from the interior comforts, the beautiful beaches of Aberffraw and Porth Trecastell await nearby.

Best for: Comfortable interiors with watersports and beach walks on tap.

Blacksmith’s Cottage, Menai Bridge, Anglesey

Sleeps 2 | Pet-Friendly

Another characterful space restored to offer elegant interiors, Blacksmith’s Cottage sits within the grounds of Plas Newydd, a sprawling National Trust property on Anglesey’s southern shoreline. The grounds are also home to a protected red squirrel forest, and just a short drive from Newborough Beach, a must-see stretch of forest and sand complete with a tidal island and fascinating history. At the cottage, our favourite feature has to be the old fireplace in the kitchen, which has been converted into a comfortable loveseat where you can relax and unwind with your favourite person.

Best for: Elegant interiors just a short drive from Wales’ most romantic beach.
