Cottages in Newborough

Situated in the southwest corner of Anglesey, Newborough village is the gateway to the world-famous Llanddwyn Beach (one of the best on Anglesey) and Island. Llanddwyn Island is the home of St Dwynwen, the Welsh patron saint of love, celebrated on the 25th of January. The island also boasts two impressive lighthouses and hidden sandy coves to escape the crowds, so no matter which Newborough accommodation catches your eye, you’ll have plenty to do and see.

FAQs

Where is Newborough, Anglesey?

The village of Newborough is situated in Anglesey’s southernmost corner, close to where the land of the island curls around to almost meet the mainland. In Welsh, it’s known as Niwbirch.

Are there any places to eat in Newborough?

Newborough is a tiny Welsh village with stunning views over to Snowdonia. In terms of food and drink, there’s a popular fish & chip shop with a great name (The Codmother) and a local community pub which also serves food, The White Lion. Just down the road in Pen-Lôn, Y Marram is a restaurant option with special seasonal events. Elsewhere, take a look at our best places to eat and drink on Anglesey.

Where do I park for Newborough Forest & beach?

There is a huge car park beside the beach at Newborough. The address you need to get there is Llanfairpwllgwyngyll LL61 6SG, and parking is charged at £2 per hour, plus 40p for every additional 20 minutes. The maximum charge is £7, so that’s what you’ll pay for a full day. There is free disabled parking for blue badge holders.

Food & Drink

After a long walk along the beach or through the woods, in the heart of the village is the Squirrel Cafe, where you can grab a warm coffee and a slice of cake. If you fancy something a little more filling, The Codmother serves some of the finest fish and chips. Just a short drive away in Brynsiencyn, you’ll find The Heritage cafe, where you can get a small snack or a larger sandwich.

Things to Do

With over 2000 acres of woodland, sand dunes and beaches, there is nowhere else to go to have hours of fun building dens in the woods or jumping off the dunes. Newborough is home to the Anglesey Park run, which is held most Saturday mornings. The Newborough nature reserve has a fantastic bird hide where you can sit quietly and admire various bird species. Newborough Forest is famous for its red squirrel numbers, so keep your eyes peeled. For something a little different, Tan y Foel is a riding centre where you can gallop along the sand dunes at low tide. Foel Farm offers a fun-filled day out for all the family, with Halen Mon neighbouring it with the Sea Zoo.
