Red Wharf Bay, known locally as Traeth Coch, sweeps for around 2.5 miles along Anglesey’s east coast between Pentraeth and Benllech. At low tide, huge expanses of sand are revealed, attracting wading birds and other coastal wildlife. With woodland, dunes and wide-open sea views, this is one of the island’s most atmospheric places for a long shoreline walk.

The beach is particularly rewarding at low tide, when vast areas of sand appear, but take care around tidal channels and mudflats. Dogs are welcome, and the Anglesey Coastal Path connects the bay with Pentraeth and the surrounding countryside.
