As locals, we’re fiercely proud of the area. Telling the tale of North Wales’ highlights is our favourite pastime. From navigating craggy rock faces to seeing the coastline in a new light, we know the hidden gems and where to find them.

Even if your goal is to delight in a few days of peace and quiet, keep reading. There are plenty of things to do in North Wales that aren’t adrenaline-inducing (however, these are on the menu if you fancy them!)

1. Rib Ride

If your goal is to explore North Wales, a Rib Ride is the missing piece of your puzzle.

There’s nothing like feeling the salty sea breeze in your hair, especially when you have a view of the Menai Strait and Puffin Island on the horizon. North Wales is known for its spectacular coastline, and it’s best seen from the water — trust us. 

Rib (rigid inflatable boat) rides present a unique way of taking to the water. From seeing the famous bridges from below to circling the puffins, this activity highlights the beauty of Britain’s nature. If you’re lucky enough to have a full day, we recommend going around all of Puffin Island to see as much undisturbed nature as possible.

You’ll also want to bring warm layers. Even in the summer, the boat can get a little chilly, but that’s a small price to pay for the pristine views!

2. Castles in North Wales

There’s a reason so many of the UK’s folk tales are set in Wales, and the castles of North Wales are the starting point to many of these fables. 

Beaumaris, Caernarfon, Conwy, and Harlech make up North Wales’ quartet of castles. All four are official UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Criccieth Castle should also be on radar, as this castle was built by prince Llywelyn the Great and is steeped in history.

If possible, avid history buffs and fairy tale fanatics should visit them all. But if you’re short on time, we’ve created an overview of each to help you decide.

• Caernarfon Castle — The largest of the four, this castle was built in the late 11th century.
• Beaumaris Castle — Beaumaris Castle was planned in 1282 by Edward I, but was only completed in 1295 after the Madog Llywelyn uprising.  
• Conwy Castle — An iconic site, Conwy Castle has towered over the surrounding town for over 700 years.
• Harlech Castle — Standing proud on a rocky knoll by the Irish Sea, Harlech Castle’s surrounding scenery is as impressive as its structure. 
• Criccieth Castle — Also known as Castell Cricieth, this 13th-century castle sits on a rocky headland and overlooks Tremadog Bay.

Finding your inner zen is easy after taking a leisurely stroll across Pwllheli Beach or Black Rock Sands. But if you want to truly plummet your stress levels, an in-house yoga session could be the remedy for you.

We work with Emily M, an experienced yoga teacher, to bring full-body yoga sessions to your cottage door. From beginners to crow pose experts, Emily M travels all over North Wales to help you relax, unwind, and find a moment of stillness on your holiday.

Want to challenge yourself? Alongside yoga, our holiday concierge services include Pilates sessions. These sessions are run by Emily C, another expert coach. Though low-impact, Pilates provides a full-body workout, leaving you stronger, more flexible, and more mobile than before. 

4. Rock Climbing Experiences

Calm your mind and steady your grip. It’s time to tackle some of North Wales’ ancient climbing routes.

5. Children’s Woodland Experiences

Welsh woodland holds decades of secrets and, like the castles, has also inspired much of the local folklore. And what better age to learn about the local myths and legends than as a tot?

The North Wales Children’s Woodland Experiences bring children outside and away from the ever-present screens. From the cutest walks in North Wales and tree climbing to scavenger hunts and den building, this experience is all about shutting off the modern world and letting the little ones embrace mother nature.

6. Foil Rides

Before you guess — no, foiling has nothing to do with shiny silver foil. Instead, this is an action-packed watersport that allows you to fly (yes, fly!) over the sea.

Foiling is a water sport that evolved from wind and kitesurfing, but rather than relying on a sail, you move by standing on a board that generates an upward force and sideways propulsion. This results in you effortlessly gliding through the water.
